With St Patrick’s day fast approaching, I have a good excuse to come up with a new cocktail recipe. That’s the one thing I miss about not working in a pub anymore, so it’s always nice to have a chance to design a new cocktail.
This one is called a Proud Patrick and it’s a tangy mix of citrus and anise flavours. It’s pretty potent, so drink responsibly and all that jazz.
What You Will Need
- 50ml Blue Curacao
- 25ml Sambuca
- 25ml Tropical Sourz
- 125ml fresh orange juice
- 150ml lemonade
- An orange and a star anise to decorate
What To Do:
- Chill all of the drinks
- Add the Blue Curacao, Sourz and Sambuca to a glass (one a little bigger than a half pint glass)
- Add the orange juice and stir gently until the green colour is even
- Add the lemonade
- Cut a two inch piece of skin from the orange and scrape away all the white stuff (pith?)
- Pull the knife fast along the back of the peel, holding it tightly against your thumb to create pressure.
- Add the peel twist to the side of the glass and float a star anise on the surface of the drink.
Enjoy!
For a slightly less potent version, make the mixture of the alcohol and the orange juice and then pour into two serving glasses and top up with extra lemonade.

I think if I drank even half of that I’d be on the floor! I have little tolerance, lol.
