Welcome to day twenty-two of the A-Z Challenge – V is for Vox.
My theme for this year is “The A-Z of My Favourite Books and Authors”. Each day (except Sunday) will feature a book or author whose title or first or last name starts with the corresponding letter of the alphabet.
Vox is the debut novel of Christina Dalcher, and boy is it a debut and a half. The story is about a scarily close feeling future where the US government decide to take away women’s voices. No longer able to travel, vote etc. they are also limited to speaking just 100 words a day.
Dalcher does an immense job of capturing the outrage of the women, the quiet acceptance from young girls who know no better, the smugness of those who brought the new rule into play, and perhaps scariest of all, the young boys who begin to think they no longer have to respect women because this is the message their government is sending them.
Vox will make you question everything you thought you knew and it will stay with you long after you finish reading it. If you only read one book this year, make it this one.
Have you read Vox? Did you enjoy it? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Wow, what an interesting concept. Kind of scary for sure.
It’s brilliant and scary in a “that could actually happen” way
I’m reading this at the moment – certainly RECOMMEND to all
It’s amazing isn’t it!
I’ve been wondering about this for a while – it’s on reminder list on Amazon. I think I might just click ‘buy’!
Do it – it’s a fantastic book
I am so excited to get to this book. It is currently on my TBR schedule for August. Everyone has said that it is totally stunning, PLUS I am a huge fan of The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood. Glad to hear that you are also singing its praises!!
Don’t wait until August, read it next!
