It’s almost a law that you have to watch something a little scary on Halloween night isn’t it. The last couple of years I’ve shared some of my favourite horror movies for Halloween night watching, but this year, I thought I’d share six ideas of Netflix shows to watch if you’re not in the mood for a movie,
The Haunting of Hill House
I loved this show. There are a few jump scares, and the atmosphere of the show is creepy enough to keep you on the edge of your seat, but there’s so much more to it than that. It actually tells a story, flitting between the past and the present. The characters feel real and you definitely want to know how their stories turn out.
American Horror Story
This show isn’t scary like a horror movie, but it definitely plays with horror themes for a modern day take on the classics. My favourite season is Asylum, but for a more classic Halloween series, then Murder House is the one to watch.
Hemlock Grove
This show centres around a werewolf character and his mysterious friend. Not jumpy, but a great story that will pull you in and keep you gripped.
Scream
Ideal for fans of slasher movies, this is an easy watch with plenty of intrigue to keep you glued to your screen. Not overly gory, and it does drag a little in places, but the first season is worth a watch if you want something a little different.
Santa Clarita Diet
Santa Clarita Diet is perfect if you want some light hearted horror. The main character is a zombie (not the shambling kind), and it’s a little gory in parts, but it’s actually a comedy and it’s really funny. The characters get themselves into some hilarious situations trying to keep the zombie thing a secret and continue living their suburban lives.
Black Mirror
Black Mirror is a great watch for anyone who isn’t into the typical horror format. Each standalone episode features a kind of technology and the effects it has on people. There are so many twists you won’t see coming, and the themes are dark enough to make it a great Halloween watch. The best episodes for twists you won’t see coming are: White Bear, Play Test, White Christmas and Shut Up and Dance.
Have you seen any of these? What are your go to Halloween shows? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Given I’m a horror wuss I think you mean Netflix shows I should avoid? LOL

Haha maybe! Santa Clarita is more comedy than horror, but it does have gory moments
Margaret Gallagher

All defo worth a watch!

These all sound really good. Hemlock Grove is probably more up my street. I’m ok with vamps and werewolf’s shows/movies but not to keen on ghosts.
