There are so many books I recommend to people and so many I’ve loved, so narrowing all of those books down to just twenty was hard. Like hard, hard. I limited myself to only one book per author, or this list could have easily been made up by Stephen King, Jodi Picoult or Michael Grant books alone. The books on the list are in no particular order.
So with that in mind, here goes: 20 books everyone should read at least once.
We Need To Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
1984 by George Orwell
The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty
Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin
The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M Auel
The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The Unwind Series by Neal Schusterman
The Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
Needful Things by Stephen King
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Dying for Christmas by Tammy Cohen
The Rumour by Lesley Kara
The Stranger In My Home by Adele Parks
The Pact by Jodi Picoult
The Gone Series by Michael Grant
Vox by Christina Dalcher
Thirteen by Steve Cavanagh
The Witches by Roald Dahl
The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by CS Lewis
The Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
Have you read any of these books? Did you enjoy them? Which books do you always recommend to people? Let me know in the comments 🙂

Interesting collection. I’ve not read any Ira Levin but I did just get a copy of Boys from Brazil on sale to read to remedy that.

Hope you enjoy it 🙂

Interesting list. Mine would have The Hobbit, The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy series, The Stand, the original Dragonlance trilogy. I’d have to think about what else.
Debbie, My Random Musings
I do like The Stand but I limited myself to one Stephen King book lol
Kate Holmes
Some old favourites there and some new ideas too – thank you #AnythingGoes

I feel kind of bad that I’ve only read Narnia and the Hunger Games! I am a huge Jodi Picoult fan and don’t think I’ve read (or heard of) that one.

Try it, you won’t be disappointed

Great list. I’m not a huge fiction fan. But every non and then I need a change. So It’s awesome to have some fiction books to add to my list.
Currently, John Grisham is my go-to for all things fiction. And I did think 1984 was amazing!

I like John Grisham too

Fantastic list and I enjoyed reading we need to talk about Kevin and Gone Girl, both really good books X #anyrthinggoes

Ooh I agree with so many of the titles you’ve suggested. The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe is an all-time classic and Gone Girl is my recent fave #AnythingGoes

I’ve read several of these, but many I have not. Thanks for the list! I used to read a lot of Stephen King, but I haven’t read the one you listed. I read the Hunger Games books because my daughter wanted to talk to me about them. I didn’t think I’d like them, but I loved them! I remember reading the Exorcist and 1984 when I was young, so that brought back memories. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is so awesome. Fun choices!

The Hunger Games just has a way of pulling you in doesn’t it – a mix of a fun concept and good writing I think.
