After reading In A Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware when it first came out, I made a note to watch for her new books. I kind of missed the mark on keeping up, but after reading The Turn of The Key, I got right back into Ruth Ware’s writing style and so I knew I had to read The Woman in Cabin 10 and it didn’t disappoint.
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
Blurb from The Back Cover
This was meant to be a perfect trip.
The Northern Lights. A luxury press launch on a boutique cruise ship. A chance for travel journalist Lo Blacklock to recover from a traumatic break in.
Except things don’t go as planned.
Woken in the night by screams, Lo rushes to her window to see a body thrown over board from the next door cabin. But the records show that no one ever checked into that cabin, and no passengers are missing from the boat.
Exhausted, emotional and increasingly desperate, Lo has to face the fact that she may have made a terrible mistake. Or she is trapped on board a boat with a murderer – and she is the sole witness …
My Thoughts on The Book
The Woman in Cabin 10 is a great book for anyone who enjoys thrillers. The whole book is fantastic and a series of red herrings kept convincing me I knew what was going on, only to have the tables turned and realise I’d gotten it all wrong. I was over half way through the book when I worked out the first twist, but the rest of them took me completely by surprise and I love a book that can do that.
I read The Woman in Cabin 10 in two sittings (it would have been one, but I didn’t start it until after midnight one night) which shows how gripped I was by it. It’s one of those books where you just have to know how everything is going to turn out.
I felt really bad for Lo. So much went wrong so quickly for her, and I could see how that would be over whelming and make you doubt yourself, and I understood why she started to think everyone was against her. Having said that, there were moments in the book where I wanted to shake her for being too trusting.
Conclusion and Rating
Overall, The Woman in Cabin 10 is a fantastic book with a good cast of characters, all of whom you will suspect of being involved in the murder at one point or another. The twists are good and plausible and the ending is brilliant. 5/5
