Career wins come in all different shapes and sizes. You might win the promotion that you’ve been longing for or win a big new client that will bring prestige to your firm. If you are self-employed, you might make a big sale or sign a lucrative new deal. If you work as a freelancer, just getting an invoice paid on time often feels like a success.
In the COVID-19 world, it’s more important than ever that we find things to celebrate. The last few months have been tremendously difficult, and we must look for positives where we can find them. But, at the same time, it’s much harder to celebrate your career successes. If you’d been promoted in 2019, you might have treated your colleagues to after-work drinks. You might have hosted a dinner party with friends and family, or you may have splashed out on a weekend away with your partner.
Celebrating in 2020 is much more difficult, especially while we are all under different restrictions, and the rules are always changing. Here are some tips to help you to celebrate, even small wins, in lockdown.
Buy Yourself a Gift
There has never been a better time to buy yourself a gift. If your financial situation allows it, why not celebrate your success with Rolex or something equally special? If you haven’t been adversely affected by lockdowns, redundancies, and furloughs, you might have saved a fortune this year while you haven’t been able to go out, so treat yourself.
Celebrate at Home
If you have a busy household, treat everyone to a takeaway, a cake, or maybe even a night of music and dancing at home. If you live with a partner, consider a romantic meal or order in from your favourite restaurant.
Even if you live alone, you can spend the night watching your favourite movies, indulging in junk food and treats, and opening a bottle of fizz. Mark the occasion in any way you can, with whoever you can.
Share Your Success
We all need something to celebrate right now, so share the good news with the people that you love. Facetime or Zoom with friends and family and share the news on social media.
Book Some Time Off
Your big win might mean that you can’t take time off right now. It might also mean that you are going to have to work harder than ever for the foreseeable future. So, book a few days off as soon as you are able to so that you’ve got something to look forward to, and you’ll know that a well-deserved rest isn’t too far away.
If you have managed to find success during such turmoil, you deserve to celebrate. No matter how small the win, or how small the celebration, enjoy it.
Have you had any work wins to celebrate this year? How have you done it? Let me know in the comments 🙂
