I think it’s fair to say 2020 wasn’t the best year right? In some ways, I think lockdown actually should have helped make me more productive, but that really wasn’t the case at all. I don’t know whether it was the lockdown, or whether it was just a coincidence, but in 2020 my motivation hit an all time low.
I basically ignored my goals – it became more of a thing to do client work and make money, and because I was finding it so hard to focus a lot of the time, that’s pretty much all I managed to do.
On a positive note, some of my goals still came together somehow, and to be honest, I’m just glad to be out of the funk I felt for most of last year so I’m not going to let a few missed goals worry me too much.
1 Publish four new books (two novels, a short story collection and one non fiction book)
This goal half happened. I published the two novels (For the Love of the Law and A Mother’s Love) but not the short story collection or the non fiction book.
2 Create and launch two new writing courses/challenges
This didn’t even come close to happening.
3 Keep blogging manageable
(Unless I want my blogs to end up like ad central (which I don’t) then I have to focus more on the things that make me money. I love blogging and have no intention of giving it up, but I do need to take a step back and post a little less frequently. I will now be posting twice per week on this blog and once per week on my writing blog)
This one was done and it felt manageable and I will be continuing with those schedules.
4 Do more editing work for clients
This one was done.
5 Grow my social media followers by 25%
This one I missed, but I did manage 22% growth which isn’t bad considering I didn’t really do anything different.
6 Grow my Pinterest views by 100%
This one happened, but then Pinterest stopped supporting story pins and my views went back down a lot.
7 Create at least four digital products for writers
This one didn’t happen.
8 Complete #NaNoWriMo
This one didn’t happen.
This year, I will be setting myself some new goals, and these goals will be mostly aimed at getting back on track. Check in next week to see my goals for 2021.
Did you hit all of your goals for 2020? Let me know in the comments 🙂

2020 was a rough year and a lot of us had our goals fall by the wayside. I got a few of mine but completely forgot about others. I think the fact we survived 2020 is worth celebrating at this point.

Yes, I agree!

I didn’t set any goals for 2020, which is probably a good thing in hindsight. I think I need to set some for 2021 though as my motivation is at an all time low and it would b nice to have something to help me focus.

I do generally find having goals helps so much with motivation but I think last year was the exception.
