The Push was another book I spotted on Amazon and the cover caught my attention enough that I wanted to know more. I seriously blame Amazon for the fact my tbr pile gets longer every day rather than shorter. Any way, I am so glad I found this book because I absolutely loved it. Read on to find out more about my thoughts on The Push.
The Push by Ashley Audrain
Blurb from the Back Cover
“The women in this family, we’re different …”
Blythe Connor doesn’t want history to repeat itself.
Violet is her first child and she will give her daughter all of the love she deserves. All of the love that her own mother withheld.
But firstborns are ever easy. And Violet is demanding and fretful. She never smiles. Soon Blythe believes she can do no right – that something’s very wrong. Either with her daughter or herself.
Her husband, Fox, says she’s imagining it. But Violet’s different with him. And he can’t understand what Blythe suffered as a child. No one can.
Blythe wants to be a good mother. But what if that’s not enough for Violet? Or her marriage? What if she can’t see the darkness coming?
Mother and daughter. Angel or monster? We don’t get to choose our inheritance – or who we are …
The Push is an addictive, gripping and compulsive read that asks what happens when women are not believed – and what if motherhood isn’t everything you hoped for, but everything you always feared.
My Thoughts on the Book
I loved The Push. It grabbed me straight away and didn’t let me go until the very last page. It was well paced with plenty of twists and turns along the way, some of which made my jaw drop. The story definitely kept me guessing. One moment, I was sure that Blythe was a terrible mother and the next I was convinced that Violet wasn’t a normal baby.
Fox, Blythe’s husband, was the one who really got my back up though. He had a knack of playing mr perfect dad but then at the same time, he thought nothing of leaving Blythe and Violet alone together even after he had accused Blythe of not taking proper care of the baby.
I don’t want to give any spoilers so I’ll stop there, but this book is a great read that will keep you gripped and make you question everything.
Conclusion and Rating
I loved The Push and it was one of those books that stay with you after you’ve read it which I think is always a sign of a good read. 5/5
