You might have saw I posted a list of all of the books I read last year earlier this month (if you missed it, you can take a look here). Today I am sharing my top ten favourites of those books. It was really hard choosing just ten, but I managed it, but there’s no way I could put them in order of preference, so instead, they are in the order that I read them.
The Herd by Emily Edwards
The subject of vaccinations is always going to be one that causes arguments, especially now, and i think Emily Edwards does a really good job of presenting both sides of the argument in The Herd. Whichever side of the vaccination debate you are on, this is a really good book that will make you think as well as entertain you.

The Safe Place by Anna Downes
I love the way Anna Downes has pulled off writing a book that has a simmering uneasiness beneath the surface of a place that should be idyllic. You can’t put your finger on what is off, but you know something is. The twists and turns kept me guessing and the book kept me glued to it until the very last page.

The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan
This book is like something out of a Black Mirror episode which I loved, but it is so much more than just a peek at the (perhaps not too distant) technological future. It illustrates the different ways society views mothers vs fathers without coming across as preachy or patronising. It will also leave you debating the difference between a bad parent and a good parent who got caught out making a mistake.

The Trial by S R Masters
The Trial tells the story of a group of people who have been brought to a luxury resort in order to take part in a trial for a new drug. As things begin to spiral out of control, the participants of the study start to question their safety amongst other things. Full of twists and turns, this is a great beach read when you want something to keep you interested that isn’t too taxing.

One Last Secret by Adele Parks
It’s no secret that I love Adele Parks’ writing, so I was always going to enjoy this one, but I have to say she has really excelled herself with One Last Secret. The book moves at a fast pace and no page is wasted. The book does a brilliant job of keeping us guessing as to whether Dora is imagining things, or whether there is something truly sinister going on.

Madam by Phoebe Wynn
This is one of those books that kind of creeps up on you. From the get go, you have the impression that something odd is going on at the school where Rose has just begun to teach, but the more she questions things, the more she is reassured by the other staff that everything is as it should be. Even the girls she teaches have a strange aura about them, as though they know something she doesn’t. And when the reveal comes, it doesn’t disappoint. There is so much more i want to say about this book but I don’t want to risk spoilers so you’ll have to read it and see for yourself what I want to say!

Hostage by Clare Mackintosh
Hostage is a story that I believe highlights what must be every parents’ nightmare. Working as a flight attendant, Mina finds herself in the horrible position of being black mailed by terrorists – she must choose whether to work with the terrorists and pretty much sentence all of the passengers on her flight to death, or whether to report them and have her daughter be killed. Fast paced, intense and gripping, this is a must read for anyone who likes any sort of moral dilemma based story with plenty of action.

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
This story follows Jess as she goes to visit her brother, Ben. Except when she gets there, Ben is missing and no one seems particularly concerned about this except her. As she tries to find out what happened to Ben, it seems that the other residents of the building don’t want her to find him. Every time you think you know what’s going on, there’s another twist that will leave you open mouthed and you will never see the biggest twist of them all coming.

Fairy Tale by Stephen King
Although not a horror story, Fairy Tale feels like old school Stephen King with regards to the writing style and the characters. In true Stephen King style, the characters become friends and you can feel their emotions along with them as they navigate the fairy tale world around them. If you like fantasy stories or you just fancy something a bit different, give this one a try.

Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and Jennifer Finney Boylan
Mad Honey is Jodi Picoult at her best. Olivia finds herself in a position where she must decide if she truly thinks her son is capable of murder or not. When his girlfriend is found dead, murdered in her home, he is the chief suspect. At first Olivia is certain he didn’t do it, but then she begins to question everything. Olivia searches for the truth, although at times, she is afraid of the answers. I really don’t think this has done this book justice but I don’t want to risk spoiling anything.

Touring Duo
A really great selection of book inspiration! The Safe Place is on my list of books to read, I just need to find some time to clock off and read. Though have read a couple of Lee Child books this year, have some John Grisham’s stacked up next! Sim x #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love John Grisham. I’ve never tried Lee Childs
Joanne
I’ve read both Mad Honey and The Paris Apartment and enjoyed them both; I see quite a few others I’ll have to add to my never-ending reading list as you have a lot of really great sounding ones here.
