Welcome to day twenty one of the A-Z Challenge and today’s letter is U.
The A-Z Challenge involves blogging every day except Sundays and each day corresponds to a letter of the alphabet. The daily posts most relate to that letter and can all have a theme or can be totally random. My theme this year is Recommended Reading, where I will share three to five books for each letter that I have really enjoyed and think more people should read.
I have tried to have a mix of authors and genres but you will notice some real favourites occurring more than once. The posts do contain affiliate links (don’t worry, they don’t affect you in any way but if you want to know more, check the end of the post). Below you will find today’s chosen books:
The Uglies Series by Scott Westerfeld
I loved this series. It starts with the book Uglies, where teenagers have normal imperfections such a slightly big nose or sticky out ears. The concept is that once they are old enough, they are made “pretty” and any imperfections are removed. But at what cost? To read the blurb or to buy the book, click here.
The Unit by Ninni Holmqvist
The Unit is a place where older people go once society has deemed they are no longer useful. They live in luxury and peace but there is a catch – they are expected to donate their organs as and when they are needed by younger people. A great look at how certain members of society sees older people as disposable. To read the blurb, or to buy the book, click here.
The Unwind Series by Neal Schusterman
This is another of my favourite series and it is based on a fairly shocking concept – abortion is no longer legal but if your child reaches the age of thirteen and you no longer want them, you can send them off to be unwound where they will be broken down for parts basically. Some religious families offer up a tithe (a child they are willing to sacrifice to be unwound for the greater good). While some of these kids accept their fates, others take matters into their own hands and try to escape a fate that could be worse than death. To read the blurb or to buy the book, click here.
