Between the start of January and the end of June this year, I have read fifty books (which puts me nicely on target for one hundred books this year). Below I am sharing my five favourites of the fifty.
They are listed in no particular order. Please note this post contains aff links. These don’t affect you in any way but if you want to learn more about them, scroll down to the end of the post.
Horrorstor by Grady Hendrix
I’ll be honest – I bought this book based solely on its cover. I liked the concept of a book made to look like a furniture catalogue. I kind of expected it to be a bit silly or funny but i was wrong. It was a really good, fast paced story that had a creepy vibe and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout.

UR by Stephen King
In this novella, a man gets a whole lot more than he bargained for when he finally gives in and orders what he thinks is a normal e-reader. It turns out that this e-reader is anything but normal.

Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman
This is a strange one for me to love so much, because it’s not something I would normally read. I normally stick to horror, thriller, crime that kind of thing. I’m not really sure what genre this would come under as it’s just a woman living her life. However, her character and her reactions to things make this a great book that will keep you hooked until the end.

Tampa by Alissa Nutting
I never imagined myself recommending this book, yet here we are. If you don’t know, Tampa is about a woman who becomes a secondary school teacher because she is sexually attracted to teenage boys and wants to seduce one. Is it an uncomfortable read? Undoubtably. Will it make you cringe in parts? Oh yes. But is it so well written that is gets right under your skin despite the troubling subject matter? Yup.

The It Girl by Ruth Ware
I love all of Ruth Ware’s books and The It Girl didn’t let me down. Full of twists and turns and things you won’t see coming, The It Girl is a brilliant look at how the facts can be twisted to suit a certain narrative.

Maria Bonacci
I just read The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix. This one also was a really good, fast-paced story that had a creepy vibe. It was also a bit gross and I had to read some parts verrrrry fast 🙂 I will have to check out Horrorstor. I’m sure it’s great thanks!

I enjoyed Eleanor Oliphant too; I just read it this year and while I have yet to read It Girl, I did enjoy Ware’s other book– the Woman in Cabin 10.
