The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
Today, we have the lovely Ross from Minimalist Father.
1 Introduce yourself
Hi. I’m Ross, 41 years young from London. I live with my partner and our daughter. I currently work full time in retail which is of course so much fun!
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
It’s a blog about minimalism mainly but I also discuss personal growth and wellbeing and just managing your life better as a whole. I have been a minimalist for many years and have helped family members and friends with the principles of minimalism to help them simplify. I am a strong believer in growing as a person as well, so I enjoy posting about personal development and making positive changes.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
I hope they can learn how to simplify their life. Minimalism isn’t a one size fits all principle. People seem to automatically think it is just about decluttering and owning next to nothing. But really it is about owning things that bring value into your life and not owning things that clutter up your space that bring no value. People can adapt many or a few principles to their own life as it doesn’t have to be an all or nothing thing.
This thinking is also used not just with possessions, but mentally as well. I want people to also learn about decluttering their life as a whole and learn how to have less stress and bring more positivity and guidance to themselves.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
Some of the comments I have received are really nice and motivating and keep me going when I feel a bit disheartened.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
How hard it is to gain traction and get readers. While I do it as a hobby and have had some lovely comments sometimes, I have to remind myself why I am doing it because blogging can be a very disheartening hobby.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I only wear odd socks. Not sure why though.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I would like to say minimalism but for the rest of my life I think it would be hard to keep up with new things to write about as it is quite niche. So, I would probably say movies as I am a big movie fan, and you would never not have something to write about.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Getting readers and promoting it. You can write 100 amazing blog posts (Not saying I have!) and it doesn’t matter how great it is, no-one will read it without promotion. Finding the time to do that is difficult, and even then, it is only a few visits a day.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Have patience. Unless you have a good advertising budget, you need to be in it for the long game. I think too many people give up too early expecting quick success. I have been blogging for 8 months and feel I still have a long road ahead of me.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
That good/lots of content doesn’t mean people will just flock to your blog. I posted a lot at the start, probably too much, thinking the more I posted the better/easier/quicker it would be getting readers. But there is so much more to it than that.
Less is more. Kind of ironic making that mistake considering it is a minimalism blog.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
Just for it to be a known learning resource for people wanting to learn about minimalism and to hopefully motivate people to make positive changes.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
I don’t really have one, but I have always followed The Minimalists blog and podcast for a good while. I like Joshua Becker who is a part of The Minimalists and I have read a few of his books.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
Again, don’t really have one. I am only on Twitter actively and have conversed with some nice people so I would say Twitter. Or X as it is called now (can’t get used to that).
14 Anything else you want to share with us?
I don’t think so! Maybe if anyone has any tips on reducing my coffee addiction, I welcome them haha!
15 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
