For this year’s A-Z Challenge, I have decided to do “An A-Z of Sarah J Maas characters”. The characters will be from the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series’ because when I first started researching this idea, I hadn’t read all of the CC (Crescent City) series.
Each day I will focus on one character from ACOTAR, TOG, or both, and I will share things such as an image of how I imagine them to look, what I like or dislike about the character, and how they affect the story.
I will try my best not to have any spoilers and if there are any, they will only be small ones – if I judge this differently to you then I apologise in advance.
Without further ado, let’s get to today’s post – Day Eleven, K.
ACOTAR – K is for King of Adarlan
The King of Adarlan is Dorian’s father. He hates magic so much he banished it from Adarlan and insists that the land stays magic free. He rules with an iron fist and he is definitely an example of “my way or the high way”. As time goes on, we learn that the king is actually possessed by a Valg Prince who is trying to take over the kingdom for themselves.
*Spoiler alert* Celaena, Dorian, Chaol etc believe the king to be the leader of the Valg demons and they plot to end the king. When he is almost dead, he begs them to end him, explaining that he never wanted this and that he would rather die than be this person he has become. We later learn that Dorian has magic and his father banished magic from Adarlan to try and stop the Valg demons from finding out about this.
One of the best twists comes that after the king is killed, the gang learn that actually the Valg demon inside of Vernon, the king’s right hand man is actually the head demon and they still have a huge fight on their hands.
Do you like today’s choice(s)? Who would you have chosen for this letter? Let me know in the comments.
