For this year’s A-Z Challenge, I have decided to do “An A-Z of Sarah J Maas characters”. The characters will be from the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series’ because when I first started researching this idea, I hadn’t read all of the CC (Crescent City) series.
Each day I will focus on one character from ACOTAR, TOG, or both, and I will share things such as an image of how I imagine them to look, what I like or dislike about the character, and how they affect the story.
I will try my best not to have any spoilers and if there are any, they will only be small ones – if I judge this differently to you then I apologise in advance.
Without further ado, let’s get to today’s post – Day Five, E.
ACOTAR – E is for Elain
Sister of Feyre and Nesta, Elain is, in my opinion, the least interesting of the sisters. I am assuming that at some point to come, we are going to get a book that centres on Elain and get to know her a bit more, but at the minute, I feel like she’s just kind of there. I don’t know her as a character except that she likes gardening and she seems to spend most of her time in her own ditzy little world.
I have included her here because I think she might be going to become more important, but right now, I have to say she is one of my least favourite characters simply because she serves no real purpose to the story.
ToG – E is for Elide
Elide is a character who really comes into her own after being portrayed as someone kind of unimportant to the story, we suddenly see this whole different side to her and her story becomes one of the most interesting threads in the later books. Elide doesn’t have a ton of self confidence and it’s nice to see the powerful characters around her recognising her strengths.
Do you like today’s choice(s)? Who would you have chosen for this letter? Let me know in the comments.

Thank you for bringing attention to these characters. I have not yet read Maas, so it’s nice to have an idea of things before diving in.

I hate it when characters are just there to fill space and not do anything. Hopefully the character you mention eventually does more than hang out in her garden.

Same – if there’s no purpose to a character, then you don’t need them!
