For this year’s A-Z Challenge, I have decided to do “An A-Z of Sarah J Maas characters”. The characters will be from the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series’ because when I first started researching this idea, I hadn’t read all of the CC (Crescent City) series.
Each day I will focus on one character from ACOTAR, TOG, or both, and I will share things such as an image of how I imagine them to look, what I like or dislike about the character, and how they affect the story.
I will try my best not to have any spoilers and if there are any, they will only be small ones – if I judge this differently to you then I apologise in advance.
Without further ado, let’s get to today’s post – Day Fourteen, N.
ACOTAR – N is for Nesta
Nesta seems to be one of those characters who a lot of the fandom love to hate. She also has her fans and they won’t have a word said against her. When we first me Nesta, who is Feyre’s older sister, I can’t say I liked her. She had a terrible attitude and she was horrible to everyone who cared about her.
But when we got the book in her POV, it did change how I viewed her. We got to see that she wasn’t horrible because she thought she was better than everyone else, it was to keep people at arm’s length due to her own self loathing and not wanting to let people get too close and then get hurt when they saw the real her.
Sarah J Maas did a really good job of bringing Nesta’s character out of the other side of her selfish behaviour and making her a character worth rooting for. I think having her and Cass get together helped make her seem more likeable too because he didn’t take her shit. I also think the Valkyrie training helped because seeing how fiercely protective of Emerie and Gwyn Nesta is shows another side to her character that is much easier to like.
ToG – N is for Nehemia
Nehemia is the Princess of Eyllwe who comes to Adarlan to learn more about how things are done there. At first, I was kind of suspicious of Nehemia, but she grew on me. Her and Caelena became friends and it was good to see Caelena let her guard down and be friends with someone after Ansel betrayed her.
There is a lot more to Nehemia than there first seems to be and while I understand why she did what she did, I don’t like it and I think had she opened up more to Caelena, they could have found another, better way.
Do you like today’s choice(s)? Who would you have chosen for this letter? Let me know in the comments.

Donna
It’s great when an author can show so much growth in a character.

Sounds like Nesta is a complicated character.
