For this year’s A-Z Challenge, I have decided to do “An A-Z of Sarah J Maas characters”. The characters will be from the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series’ because when I first started researching this idea, I hadn’t read all of the CC (Crescent City) series.
Each day I will focus on one character from ACOTAR, TOG, or both, and I will share things such as an image of how I imagine them to look, what I like or dislike about the character, and how they affect the story.
I will try my best not to have any spoilers and if there are any, they will only be small ones – if I judge this differently to you then I apologise in advance.
Without further ado, let’s get to today’s post – Day One, A.
ACOTAR – A is for Azriel
Azriel is a member of the Inner Circle of the Night Court and is Rhysand’s spymaster. Az’s main power is his shadowsinger abilities where he can use shadows to disable and even kill his enemies, plus blend in and become almost invisible. He is also a trained Illyrian warrior and is deadly on the battlefield with his warrior training and his sword, Truth Teller.
Azriel is the quietest member of the Inner Circle and I feel he is the one who brings them stability when they need it. He is one of the least well known of the main characters due to his quiet, almost brooding nature, but he is loyal to his friends and always comes through when he is needed.
My favourite Azriel quote – “Be careful how you speak about my High Lady”.
ToG – A is for Abraxos
Abraxos is the chosen dragon of Manon, leader of the Thirteen and heir to the Blackbeak coven. Abraxos is most definitely an underdog in the dragon world and definitely the least likely choice for Manon. I love that Manon saw something in him and chose him despite the ridicule and disbelief this caused, and I think this was our first glimpse of the person Manon tries to hide inside of herself.
Abraxos is on the small size for a dragon, but he doesn’t let this stop him. He is fierce and brave and definitely one of my favourite characters in the series.
Do you like today’s choice(s)? Who would you have chosen for this letter? Let me know in the comments.

a great start to the challenge. I have to confess not being familiar with either series but your character descriptions were effective in telling me more about the stories.

I don’t read books, but Mummy does. I’ll tell her about your theme, shall I?
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, please do 🙂
Ronel Janse van Vuuren
That’s a great quote from Azriel. I haven’t read either series yet, so it’s interesting to read about these characters without proper context.

These both sound interesting. I love the idea of controlling shadows, and of course dragons are always cool!

Yes, I love a good dragon!
