For this year’s A-Z Challenge, I have decided to do “An A-Z of Sarah J Maas characters”. The characters will be from the ACOTAR (A Court of Thorns and Roses) and ToG (Throne of Glass) series’ because when I first started researching this idea, I hadn’t read all of the CC (Crescent City) series.
Each day I will focus on one character from ACOTAR, TOG, or both, and I will share things such as an image of how I imagine them to look, what I like or dislike about the character, and how they affect the story.
I will try my best not to have any spoilers and if there are any, they will only be small ones – if I judge this differently to you then I apologise in advance.
Without further ado, let’s get to today’s post – Day Twenty Three, W.
ToG – W is for Why It’s Ansel
Ansel is a young woman that Aelin meets for the first time when she is sent by Arobynn to train with the Silent Assassins. Aelin is assigned to share a room with Ansel and Ansel shows her the ropes of the place and they soon become good friends.
*Spoiler alert* Unfortunately, Ansel isn’t all that she seems and she ends up betraying the Silent Assassins. Aelin tells her she has twenty seconds to get out of sight or she’s dead. At the end of the twenty seconds, she is still in range and Aelin makes the choice to give her an extra couple of seconds and essentially saves her life.
Ansel’s betrayal is a big part of why Aelin is so reluctant to let anyone in. Ansel comes through in the end though, turning up with her troops to fight on Aelin’s side and the two make their peace with each other.
Do you like today’s choice(s)? Who would you have chosen for this letter? Let me know in the comments.

Wow, that’s a lot of A names. I think you should write to Ms. Maas and complain. She really should make sure to utilize the whole alphabet for her characters 😉

I agree haha

My grandson is named Ansel. I never thought of it as a girl’s name. I have another grandson named Hansel. No, not twins, not even from the same family. Yes, I get their names mixed up too often!

I’ve never heard the name Ansel before reading this series but I think it’s a good name for a boy or a girl. Ansel and Hansel must get very confusing haha

I’ve never read a book with assassins, but I know I generally don’t gravitate towards movies with assassins, so this one might be for me. Good review, though.

I am not familiar with the series. I have only heard of Ansel for a boy, or man, the photographer Ansel Adams.

I would have thought there would be a W named character. Great job of making the best of difficult letter.

Yes, this wasn’t one I expected to struggle with!
