I read over one hundred and twenty books last year, so choosing my top 10 was quite hard but I think the 10 I have chosen are the right choices.
After struggling to choose 10, there was no way I was going to attempt to put them in preference order, so instead, here they are in alphabetical order with a brief note on why I loved them (no spoilers).
Beta by Sammy Scott
This book centres mostly around a smart house and the man who has agreed to live there for six months to try it out. It has that delicious creepy feeling where you are just waiting for it to go wrong.

Blindness by Jose Saramago
What happens when a contagion spreads that makes otherwise healthy people go blind? And if you were immune to the disease and coudl see, would you speak out? This book explores those questions and a lot more besides in a dark but brilliant story.

A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock
This isn’t a book I normally would have chosen, but it was a book club pick and I wanted to get out of my reading comfort zone so I decided to give it a go and I am so glad I did. I genuinely don’t think I can do this one justice without spoilers but I will say it is beautifully written and you should definitely check it out. Also, how gorgeous is that cover?

Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak
Young woman with a troubled past? Check. House in the sticks? Check. Creepy kid? Check. Another book club pick, this had all of the makings of being as cheesy as hell or genuinely brilliant and for me, it was definitely in the latter category. The characters, while fitting certain tropes, weren’t cliches and they felt real and the twists were amazing.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir
Science fiction isn’t a genre I read, but I have always kind of wanted to, but I have been afraid the science part will bore me. Yet again, a book club pick, I was thrown out of my comfort zone completely with this one, but I absolutely loved it and once I got started, I couldn’t put it down. The science was not only not boring, I found it fascinating and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
This is one of those books I’ve been meaning to read for ages and I kept putting it off. I finally jumped in and I found myself immersed in the story pretty much straight away.

The Teacher by Frieda McFadden
I love Frieda McFadden’s writing style and I have loved everyone of her books. They always have a twist that you don’t see coming, but this one went above and beyond that and left me reeling.

The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas
It might be cheating having a full series as one of my picks, but the later books in the series are my favourites and they won’t make any sense without reading the others. I’ve enjoyed all of Sarah J Maas’s series’, but this one just has so many amazing characters – Dorian, the 13, Elise, Abraxos, Nehemia, Chaol, Yrene, Rolf and not forgetting Caelena of course, and that’s to name only a few.

We Used to Live Here by Marcus Kliewer
This book starts with a family coming to the main character’s door and telling her they used to live there and asking if they can come in and look around. She is clearly uncomfortable, but they are insistent and in the end, she lets them in. This is a huge mistake and everything spirals from there. The book has the most amazing sense of foreboding hanging over it and it is so creepy in parts. I can’t wait for the next book by this author.

You Like It Darker by Stephen King
This collection of short stories feels like old school Stephen King. I don’t know how else to describe it, but regular Stephen King readers will know what I mean. I enjoyed most of the stories, in particular Danny Coughlin’s Bad Dream.
