After a lot of research I have finally given oil pulling a try and I have to say I am a total convert. Minty Coco is a brilliant way to start out on your oil pulling journey.
What Is Oil Pulling?
Oil pulling is a fantastic way to naturally whiten your teeth, keep your breath fresh and get rid of all that bacteria in your mouth.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that if you have good oral hygiene you don’t have bacteria – you do. The average tooth in the mouth of someone with good oral hygiene has between 1,000 to 100,000Β bacteriaΒ living on its surface.
By now, you have probably heard of oil pulling, but if you haven’t, it involves swishing coconut oil around your mouth for up to 30 minutes to remove those bad bacteria from your teeth, gums and tongue.
Oil pulling has been all over social media lately but it’s actually been practised in some parts of the world for around 3,000 years.
How Does Oil Pulling Work?
I’ll be honest, when I first heard of this I was sceptical. I thought it would be another promised “miracle cure” that actually just strips the enamel off your teeth and makes them look whiter. Wrong.
Minty Coco, which is the product I used is all natural. It is basically coconut oil infused with peppermint (the peppermint is to make it taste nice, because surprisingly, coconut oil doesn’t have a nice coconut flavour).
The bacteria in your mouth are covered with a lipid substance, which is a type of fat cell. Fat is attracted to fat so by oil pulling, the fatty substance on the bacteria is attracted to the oil, sticking to it and being spat out with the oil.
And yes, it does work, but more on that later.
There have also been reports that regular oil pulling can improve the look and feel of your skin too, although that remains unproven.
Why Choose Minty Coco?
In theory, you can use any coconut oil, so why choose Minty Coco?
I chose Minty Coco because it’s 100% natural. It comes pre-measured in single use sachets so there is no fuss and no mess. Also, with the infusion of peppermint, it taste quite nice unlike raw coconut oil.
After doing some research on oil pulling, and finding this company, I contacted them to see if they would be interested in me reviewing their product here. They were and they sent me the product to try in exchange for my honest review.
They were a lovely company to deal with, the ordering process was really simple and the product arrived the next day.
Oil Pulling With Minty Coco – A Review
As I mentioned above, the ordering process is really simple and quick and the delivery is super fast.
The product comes with instructions that are really simple – use every day for the first fortnight for 5-15 minutes then every 2-3 days for 20-30 minutes after that. They do say you can use half a sachet if you find a full one is too much. I did find a full one was a lot of liquid to hold in your mouth by the end so I am using a half sachet.
You simply pop the oil in your mouth and swish it back and forth through your teeth like you would mouth wash (when you spit it out, make sure to spit it in the bin rather than the sink as it solidifies at room temperature). After swishing, clean your teeth using your normal toothpaste.
Day 1
In all honesty, the first time I tried this, I gagged so hard I had to spit it out before I was sick. The word I would use for your first attempt is intense. I tried again, and the second time, it wasn’t so bad, although I would have to say I didn’t enjoy the sensation at all. I did see a noticeable result in the colouring on my teeth (I smoke and drink too much coffee) and my mouth felt so much cleaner. The results were so good I knew I had to try again.
Day 2
Day 2 was a lot easier. Knowing what to expect made a huge difference and it wasn’t bad at all.
Day 3 – 14
By day 3, I was enjoying doing it and now I am totally converted. I couldn’t imagine dropping this from my routine now. I actually look forward to doing it because I love how my mouth feels afterwards.
Oil Pulling Tips
- Start with a half sachet, it won’t feel so bad and you can always up it if you feel a half isn’t enough once you get used to it.
- Be prepared to waste the first one, but persevere. I am pretty squeamish about texture (I gag at the feel of bananas in my mouth) and I got to love it.
- Until you get used to the feel of the oil in your mouth, run the sachet under hot water for a couple of minutes before putting it in your mouth so it will be liquid rather than solid.
- Don’t just stand clock watching. Set a timer to go off on your phone and read a book, write a blog post or even do some ironing. Anything really as long as you can do the activity and still move your mouth.
- Use Minty Coco alongside your normal oral hygiene routine. Oil pulling is not intended to replace brushing and flossing, it is intended to enhance it.
Oil Pulling With Minty Coco – Conclusion
I love this product. It is worth every penny and more than worth that first weird sensation. My mouth feels so clean and fresh. As I mentioned above, I was gifted a box of sachets for me to review, but I will be buying my own as from tomorrow, which I think says it all about how much I loved the product.
There are no hidden costs and no add-ons. What you see is what you get which I love about any company.
Overall, Minty Coco were a pleasure to deal with and the product is fantastic. Definitely a 5/5 experience.
To get your own Minty Coco, plus free postage and packaging on your first order if you order before the end of May, simply click here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

I’ve heard of this before and I too thought it was a gimmick, but I’m really impressed with your results. I drink way too much coffee. I’m going to try this with regular organic coconut oil for a fortnight and see what happens! Thanks for the inspiration!
Debbie, My Random Musings
I was really happy with them, I didn’t expect much of a difference to be honest but I was definitely porved wrong! I don’t think I could get away with it without the minty taste, but plain oil should have the same results. Let me know how you get on π
Silly Mummy
Interesting! I have NEVER heard of this before, but it looks like it has really good results. Definitely interested – must look into it!
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s fantastic, I have absolutely loved used it and I definitely recommend trying it π
Life Loving
I’ve also never heard of this before, but I’m really keen to try this. I’m off to the dentist on Thursday so I’ll ask them about this.

Go on I dare you lol π
Harriet from Toby & Roo
This looks great I’d really like to try it! I’ve never had a go at whitening my teeth!
Debbie, My Random Musings
Its my first time trying anything to whiten my teeth because usually it involves really harsh chemicals. I love that this is all natural and actually removes bacteria as well as whitening the teeth.
Jade
Long time no speak!
I am a huge coconut oil convert in general, but haven’t yet tried oil pulling – even though my mum asks me regularly if I have. (She’s obsessed)
Having read this, I’ll be starting. The before & after results are great.
The only other thing I can add is that as well as spitting it into the bin on completion, people should be reminded not to swallow the oil after pulling due to all of the bacteria and toxins you mentioned – you don’t need that in your system π
Great post!
xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
Good to see you again π Where’ve you been hiding?
The results are way better than I expected, its definitely worth trying it. Yes, that’s a great point, the last thing you would want is all that bad stuff in your tummy! Thank you π x
Mackenzie Glanville
I’ve never heard of this but it looks great! #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
It was fab, definitely worth a go π
jeremy@thirstydaddy
Never heard of this, but as a smoker and coffee drinker, I can say that I’m intrigued
Debbie, My Random Musings
It really is fab, I would definitely recommend it!
wendy
I’ve heard of this but only ever seen celebs promoting it on instagram so always had my doubts as they’ve provably already had their teeth chemically whitened. Really impressed with your results and will be giving it a go xx #anythinggoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, I’m the same – if it celebs I always assume their teeth were whiter than white to begin with! x
John Milnes
These are great. Like most people, I have never heard of these. I am sure my wife would like to try these.
Thanks for Sharing

Cal at Family Makes
Wow, I’d heard of this but didn’t really realise how easy it was – I assumed the ‘pulling’ part would involve actually pulling something through your teeth (like flossing?!). Anyway, I’m intrigued, I think I might have to have a go now. Thanks for the info, nd the great linky #AnythingGoes
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, I assumed something like that. I think the term “pulling” comes from the movement – they advise you to push and pull it through your teeth sort of as if your teeth are pushed closed and you want to fill your cheeks if that makes sense! Thank you π
Mrs Tubbs
I do this and it’s amazing. Really makes a difference. The one thing I would mention in your guide is make sure you spit the oil out onto loo paper and bin it rather than down the sink. You can get some nasty blockages with coconut oil!
Debbie, My Random Musings
I’m loving it π I keep forgetting and spitting in the sink, I’m going to have to be more careful!
Regina L. L. Wells
I am also a recent oil pulling convert. I’ll admit, the first day was really hard because I’m like you with the texture business. I got skeeved out and spit it out after only 4 minutes and was near tears. LOL! Now, I love it, but haven’t been consistent every day…that stops today after seeing your photos. I got hooked after reading Strength and Sunshine’s post on a natural oral care company and ordered their product, which included an oil pulling packet sample. Even though I spit it out quickly, I saw the immediate draw, and began making my own with organic coconut oil and spearmint and peppermint essential oils. This is a great review, Debbie! Thank you so much for sharing it…I do love finding new brands and great products.
Debbie, My Random Musings
The first time is such a weird feeling when you don’t know what to expect isn’t it. I love finding those products that just make you think “yes!” straight away π Thank you!
Kaye
This looks awesome and love that it’s all natural! Been wanting a way to whiten my teeth for ages. #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I would definitely recommend this!
Laura - dear bear and beany
The results look great. I’m a bit funny about textures too, so I would really need to overcome that. But with those results I’m tempted x
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Once you know what to expect, the texture is actually ok, it’s just the first time it’s a little weird x
This Mum's Life
Oh my goodness, something else huge that I’d never heard of!!!! My toddler bubble really is keeping me out of the loop!! What absolutely amazing results!! For a natural product, that is brilliant. I was talking to my husband about wanting whiter teeth, just a couple of nights ago, thinking it’d only be achieved by expensive dentist trips-I’ll definitely be giving this a go!!
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π This is such a good way to get whiter teeth as it’s all natural, no harsh chemicals! Let me know how you get on
Kerry-Ann
I’m glad I read this post. I’ve also seen many posts on social media, etc about oil pulling but even the name was enough to put me off…I think, like you, it’s a texture thing but I might just give this a go. Thanks for sharing! x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yeah, it sounds kind of icky doesn’t it! Once you get used to the texture, it really is quite enjoyable π x
Adrian
Sounds like you get great results but I don’t think I could go through the gagging! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s only until you get used to it, and it’s worth it if it only happens once π
justsayingmum
OMG – the results are outstanding! Right – will be brave and try this for sure! thank you so much for the tip! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Let me know how you get on!
Faye-kaboodleMum
I have never heard of this before! It looks amazing, I’ve always wanted to find a way to whiten my teeth! I might look into this, but I do find the thought of it pretty horrible lol. I’m like you, I gag with funny textures, I can’t eat banana/porridge. Thanks for sharing though, I’m gonna do a little research on it π
Faye-kaboodleMum
Oh, I came through from #bloggerclubuk xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thanks for linking up π x
Debbie, My Random Musings
Once you get used to it, the texture is really ok (especially if you liquefy it before putting it in your mouth). Let me know how you get on if you do decide to give it a go π
Sarah James @ Tales From The Kitchen Shed
What a brilliant post Debbie. I’d heard how good oil pulling was but just didn’t like the idea of swishing coconut oil around in my mouth. You’ve given so many useful tips & info I’m going to give it a go.
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Let me know how you get on!
Shahida
This looks amazing . I myself don’t like new textures and tastes in my mouth but to get teeth that white I would definitely try it out . Thanks for sharing !
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π The texture isn’t too bad once you get used to it, and don’t worry about the taste – it tastes of peppermint!
Mess and Merlot
I actually love the taste of raw coconut oil so I might give this a try- I use it a lot for cooking or moisturising but have never tried oil pulling as it sounds like a bit of a faff and I’m kinda lazy like that π Sounds worth doing though! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
If you like the taste of raw coconut oil, you’ll be fine π Do it when you’re writing a blog post or something and then it doesn’t seem so long or boring!
Cindy
Great results! Oil pulling makes such a difference and I like that Minty Coco have the sachets to make it easier. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π I love the sachets, makes it so easy and ideal for traveling too!
Fran Back With A Bump
Wow I never believed these would work and you see so many z lister endorsed things that they love seem gimmicky!! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Yes, I’m always a bit sceptical when z-list celebrities hop on a bandwagon but these really do work π
Rebecca | AAUBlog
i’ve reviewed this too and I was meg impressed! Such good results from it x
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s fab isn’t it! x
claire
I am desperate to give this a go just not sure I can handle the texture!
The results are pretty amazing though!
thanks for sharing
xxx
Claire
Debbie, My Random Musings
I would really recommend giving it a go! Once you know what to expect from the texture, it’s actually ok. If you run it under the hot tap before opening the sachet it liquefies and it isn’t icky at all then π x
Sarah - Craft Invaders
I am totally fascinated by this. The results look amazing – who would have thought that coconut oil could do this!
Debbie, My Random Musings
I know! I didn’t expect results like this at all π
Sara Skillington
I have never heard of this. It sounds very interesting though so I might try it out as you seem to have very good results π #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s definitely worth doing, my mouth has never felt so clean and fresh π
Petite Words
Big fan of the oil pull! I love how clean it makes your teeth feel. I just use an Organic coconut oil but this looks super cool too! Thanks for promoting organic/ natural remedies, something I really believe in! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Me too! I’ve always had what I would call a pretty good oral health routine but my teeth have never felt this clean! I’m not sure if I could cope with the plain oil without the minty taste lol. Thank you π
Emma
Wow that sounds amazing and as a fellow coffee drinker I really need that in my life. Not sure if I could do it though – might gag! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π Honestly – you probably will gag the first time, but once you know what to expect, the texture is actually ok π
Katy - Hot Pink Wellingtons
I must have been hiding under a rock because I’ve not actually heard of this at all! Your results are great though, really impressive. I’m a big coffee fan, so sadly that’s shown in the whiteness of my teeth, so I’m now considering it. But I am a bit of a gagger about textures and odd tastes, so a bit concerned it’s not for me! Seems worth it though if I could get past that! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π I’m like that too – the first one is pretty gaggy but after that, once you know what to expect it’s really ok. Don’t worry about the taste, it tastes of peppermint!
One Messy Mama
I have never really had full belief in these whitening products. Interesting to see that this one works. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I don’t believe in the ones with harsh chemicals – they may work but they do so much damage, but because this one is all natural, it actually has health benefits as well as just whitening π
One Messy Mama
Do these actually work? Wow. Never really had faith in these products.. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I was sceptical myself until I tried it and I now I am totally converted. I’ve just ordered 2 more boxes π

I’ve tried oil pulling once before, but I was 10 weeks pregnant, and the texture actually made me vomit!
I have heard so many amazing things about it though, that I’ve really wanted to try again, and this blog post just made me want to give it another chance! I really think the idea of adding some flavor will help me be able to stomach it a bit more. Thanks so much for sharing x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh no, that’s not good! With the minty flavour, it does taste quite nice I don’t think I could do it with raw oil! If the texture really bothers you, run the sachet under the tap until it liquefies then it’s just like mouth wash π x
Debbie
Hi Debbie, I have read about oil pulling before and like what I have read. I have toyed with the idea of giving it a go, but just the thought of swilling coconut oil around my mouth for any length of time has put me off.
Using a product like Minty Coco, that has a minty flavour must make oil pulling more tolerable. Maybe one day when I’m feeling braver.
xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
It’s definitely worth a go! I don’t think I could do it with the raw oil, but with the minty flavour it actually tastes quite nice x

I’ve been seeing oil pulling everywhere too and have been thinking it’s another gimmick. But you can’t argue with those results! ! That’s Hollywood white! The method is simple too and it sounds like it’s actually good for your teeth instead of those other gels and lazers (some of which are incredibly painful) what great results! #bloggerclubuk

That’s what I love about it – it’s all natural and it’s really good for you, the whitening is just a bonus really π
