I remember when I was at school, how annoying it was seeing “back to school” everywhere when we had only just broken up. It was one of those things I swore I would never understand. But now, I do.
I can only imagine the stress levels of parent’s as they try to think of everything they need to get ready for the new school year, especially if you have more than one child.
I love writing a list or two, so I thought I would write some lists of what you might need to try and eliminate some of that stress.
Back To School Checklist: Uniform
- Seven pairs of socks or tights
- Seven pairs of underwear
- Skirts/Trousers
- Shirts/Blouses
- Jumpers and cardigans
- Blazers
- Bras or vests
- Shoes
- Coat
Back To School Checklist: PE Kit
- Gym skirt or shorts
- Gym knickers
- T-Shirt
- Jumper
- Tracksuit bottoms
- Socks
- Underwear
- Trainers
- Swim suit
- Towel
- Swim hat
- Goggles
Back To School Checklist: Stationery
- Blue or black pens
- Red pen
- Ruler
- Tippex
- HB pencil (and any Hs or Bs that the art department require, we had to have a full set)
- Eraser
- Pencil sharpener
- Coloured pencils or felt tips
- Pencil case
- Note pads
- Protractor
- Compass
- Calculator
- Laptop (if allowed)
Back to School Checklist: Miscellaneous
- School bag
- PE kit bag
- Fabric pen (to write name tags for younger children)
- Any required reading books
And don’t forget their homework if they are young enough that it’s still more like work for you than them.
I hope that’s helped.
Do you have any other items that I’ve forgotten? Let me know in the comments π

This post just makes me really miss school lol! You’ve made a great lost and you’ve covered pretty much everything! Xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
Lol I don’t think I’ll ever miss school, but I miss being that age! Thank you π x
Liz A.
I feel like school never really ended…
Debbie, My Random Musings
I know the holidays used to fly over! They probably still do for you π
Louise (Little Hearts, Big Love)
Ah the joys of the back to school checklist. I do remember the delights of stationery shopping for school. My eldest starts school in September so this is our first year of a back to school checklist for her π #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
I loved the stationery shopping part when I was at school π I hope Jessica enjoys school!
Kaye
My little one’s nowhere near school yet but I imagine I will be desperate for organisation when the time does come around with handy informative posts like this! #bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
A list is always a good starting place π
Jo (SeasideBelle)
We’ve just been to France where they always have the most amazing ‘back to school’ ranges (I am a total stationary obsessive and get quite excited)! I’m planning on getting my oldest a diary this year, so he can record and schedule his homework and after school activities himself. He’s incredibly disorganised, so I’m hoping it will help him out a bit and reduce the need for me to nag him all the time!
Debbie, My Random Musings
That sounds great, I’m a fan of stationery too π A diary is a fab idea, great way to make a note of deadlines and important tests etc.
Mess and Merlot
*Sticks fingers in ears* LA LA LA LA LAAAAA!!! π
I’m always the one panic buying the last weekend of the holidays! (See this weeks post for the full nightmare story) π
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha, that would be me! I love being organised, but the extent of that for me is having a list!
David Mellor
I’m a teacher so HATE seeing these ‘back to school’ notices everywhere. They are like the countdown death knell of my holidays haha. Fortunately for my two youngsters they are both too young for school, for a little while at least, so they escape these lists…for now anyway!

It must be horrible to see the posters everywhere as a teacher!
Mimi Rose & Me
Oooh I’ll have to share this I think you pretty much covered most aspects of going back to school! I would be using this if my little one was at school!!! #BloggerClubaUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you, I’m just hoping I haven’t missed anything π
An imperfect mum (Catie)

The Tale of Mummyhood
My two aren’t at school yet, but I love a good list and would definitely use this if I had to think about them going back to school!
#BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love lists too, I’m lost without them! Thank you π
Lex @ mumisthewordblog
My little one is only 19 months so I have a long wait before planning this list of my own, but I am sure it will waltz around. I did make me feel all nostalgic about when I used to go school shopping for the new term with my Nanna. Picking out your new pencil case, school bag and shoes. Brought back lots of lovely memories! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Enjoy not having to worry about it while you can lol π I loved shopping for stationery when I was at school!
Annette, 3 Little Buttons
That’s a pretty long list. Little Button doesn’t start school till next September, always good to get a heads up on the type of things they need. Laptop?? Is that a new thing…? #bloggerclubuk xx
Debbie, My Random Musings
I hope you found it useful π The laptop was more aimed at senior school age kids for homework and revision (ie Facebook and Twitter lol) x
Alison (MadHouseMum)
Far too organised for me, but well done you! I must admit though, in town yesterday I beetled into Clarks, lured by the huge SALE sign – only to find it was on sandals! Alison x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I love a list lol π Oh no, good excuse to buy some sandals though! x
Upside Mum
My oldest is going into P2 and my middle one starting school this year. I’ve bought loads and still seem to have a list to get! This post was helpful in making sure I’ve not missed anything important, thanks!
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh you must have a boat load to buy! Great, I’m glad it was useful π
Laura - dear bear and beany
I used to love shopping for my pens and pencils each summer ready for back to school. My eldest starts school in September and I am trying to pretend its not happening x
Debbie, My Random Musings
I loved that part too, but the uniform – not so much! Aww its a big step isn’t it x
Fancy
Mine are too little yet but I am a teacher so I needed a list thank youπ

teacuptoria
I don’t like the dreaded ‘back to school’ stress so I do like to be quite organised. I’ve already got most things covered and I ordered a school coat, PE trainers and some name labels today too. Just some stationery left then we’re sorted! Tor #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
That is super organised, you’re on fire!
One Messy Mama
Haha. I’m anxious just looking at this, I think a parent needs months to prepare. I do miss the fact that my kids won’t have a school uniform here in the States. xxx #bigpinklink
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oops sorry lol π I’m sure your kids will be pleased though, I hated wearing a uniform! x
Let your light shine Mummy
My eldest starts school in Sept, this has totally reminded me to get name labels, jogging bottoms, plimsolls and school shoes. Thanks for the reminder. #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
You’re welcome, I’m glad its helped π
Jordanne | Thelifeofaglasgowgirl
This checklist is great for anything with kids going to school. I’m definetly going to use a few of these in relation to my little one going to nursery. #BloggerClubUK
Jordanne
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π I hope you find it useful for your little one’s nursery things π
notaneffingfairytale
Argh!!! I don’t want to think about this yet!!
#BloggersclubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Haha, sorry!
Bridie By The Sea

2travellingtots
Oh wow! Our ‘big one’ doesn’t start school until next year but I have a feeling I’m going to not love the whole back to school shopping! : ) It;s bad enough getting him organised for nursery!
#bloggerclubuk
Debbie, My Random Musings
There’s just so much stuff they need!
Cheryl @ Tea or Wine
I absolutely hated seeing the back to school signs when I was a kid and we’d only just broken up for summer. I do get it and I will be making a big effort to go through your list before the end of the holidays! #BloggerClubUk X
Debbie, My Random Musings
It was awful wasn’t it! I hope you find it useful π x
Sonia
With 3 I dread this and had organised myself for the first time and actually did an M&S shop before school broke up as they had a sale! Just school shoes and stationary to go! Xx #bloggerclubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Oh great, now that’s what I call organised! x
Topsy Turvy Tribe
Oh my. So much to think about. Glad my two are too young yet. Must cost a fortune too! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
It really must do, you need sooooo much stuff!
Madeline
Fab list! I just need to add lunchbox to it, as my son is still a bit of a fussy eater so we’ll be sticking with packed lunches for now I think! x #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
Thank you π The ways schools are so fussy about what you can and can’t put in them these days, that sounds like a mission and a half, especially with a fussy eater! x
Silly Mummy
I always loved getting all the back to school stuff when I was a kid! But I imagine it will be much less fun as the parent! List are always good – can’t go wrong with a list! #BloggerClubUK
Debbie, My Random Musings
I always liked getting the stationery and my school bag, but not so much the rest, and as a parent it must be a nightmare! I do love a good list π
