The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
This week, we have the lovely Laura from Day Dreaming Foodie.
1 Introduce yourself
Hi, I am Laura. And I am addicted to food… But don’t worry; my food addiction isn’t the only thing I have to offer. I’ve just entered my 30’s and am not missing my 20’s one bit.
I have given into my life long desire for slow living in the countryside, and I am currently residing in the middle of a field in Northern Ireland with my boyfriend and a whole host of fluffy companions.
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
I started Day Dreaming Foodie just over seven years ago, and it’s grown along with me in that time.
Originally it was a place to celebrate all that is great in the world of food, and to share some of my recipes.
However, over time it has morphed into a space where I share all aspects of country living.
You can still find recipes, but I also include tips for slowing down and enjoying the little things in live. As well as my journey into sustainable, ethical living.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
I like to think people can learn to slow down a little and take in what’s going on
around them.
I am currently going into an area of my blog I have labelled ‘Enrich’ as it provides tips and inspiration for how to enrich your life with little things that make big differences.
I always include personal experiences to make my content relatable, alongside possible things to try for yourself; like in my post ‘Remember Play’ that
includes ideas for play time.
There’s also lots of posts on my blog about cooking, and where your food comes
from. They are valuable reading for someone starting a journey into cooking their
own food, or wanting to learn more about sustainability.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
Having somewhere to pour your thoughts out is most certainly good for your well
being. Even if no one ever reads it.
I have also been lucky enough to work with some incredible companies over the years – so being able to showcase thing you love AND work with incredible companies that think you are a valuable asset is pretty awesome.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
Sometimes it’s tough looking at all the blogs out there – especially on social media.
There can be a lot of negativity and this certainly isn’t fun. But there is a mute button
on Twitter for a reason.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I was a vegetarian from the ages or 13 – 20. Something you would never expect
since we now have our own small holding.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Most certainly sustainable, ethical produce. It’s something I am looking forward to
including more of over the coming months. And really hope people enjoy it.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Definitely just jumping in and putting yourself out there. Though I am sure it is harder now when there is so much out there. I was lucky when started as it was a really small, supportive community.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Blog for yourself. I think this is the most important thing to remember when you start out. Write in your own voice, about things you care about. Your passion will shine though to people that belong in your tribe.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
Probably not to give your blog such a focused name. I have grown to love Day
Dreaming Foodie – but it certainly suggests a certain kind of content.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
Over the years I have found it hard to posts consistently – so my big challenge this
year is to post every week. It sounds tiny, but it’s always best to start with something
obtainable. I’ll move it onwards from there.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
There are some superb bloggers out there at the moment, but I am really enjoying
content from Jasmin Charlotte, Me and Orla and A Bookish Baker.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
It’s hard to choose between Twitter and Instagram. I really enjoy engaging on Twitter
with the local food scene – but Instagram is most certainly a more inspiring and
positive space.
14 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
My blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
