The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
This week, we have the lovely Sally from Life Loving.
1 Introduce yourself
Hi all. I’m Sally. I write at Life Loving. Not only do I write my blog, I work full-time in marketing for an outdoor and leisurewear company.
I married my kind, patient husband in 2017 and we live in a little village in the Kent countryside. We make the most of our free time – travelling, hobbies, days out, days in entertaining, surrounded by amazing family and friends.
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
My blog was born from an incredible desire to spread the word to love life a little bit more. People often comment to me that I’m always happy and I wanted to put something out to the world that hopefully shared some of the reasons why I’m always looking at the world sunny-side up, with a view to inspiring others.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
I hope to inspire people to live a full and happy life. I don’t think life is about sitting around and waiting for things to happen, it’s about embracing the opportunities that come your way and also going out and trying new things.
It’s about spending time doing things with people you love and making the most of every moment.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I love reading other people’s blogs, looking at their photos and getting inspired by them. I know you don’t have to be a blogger to do any of those things, but there’s something amazing about being a part of a community that can do that for a person.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
Sometimes it can be a bit disheartening when you put your heart and soul into a piece and you get really low engagement. But that’s blogging, not everything you want to write about appeals to everyone.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I’m highly allergic to the cold and cold water. People nearly always think I’m making this up so I don’t have to go outside in the cold. It’s a real condition people.
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Probably travel. I really enjoy going on holiday and seeing new places. So if that was the only thing I could blog about, I would have to have more holidays.
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Taking the first steps to setting it up. I’ve worked in a corporate environment all of my life and when I struggled with technical things I’ve always had someone to ask. With blogging I was on my own.
Although after two days of having my logo the size of a house (maybe a slight exaggeration) on my header, I gave up and bribed one of the IT lads at work to help me fix it.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Soon after starting blogging I put together an editorial calendar with my planned content, social media and newsletter content. It’s really important for me to be able to pick up my blog for ½ an hour here or 10 mins there, so having that editorial calendar, which has notes about where I’ve got to with things is invaluable.
It also allows me to make sure my content is varied and covering lots of different topic in a month, rather than writing about the same things several times in a row. It’s proved to be invaluable and I’d recommend new bloggers doing the same.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
That blogging isn’t all about writing. I spend as much time, if not more, doing other elements. Fixing broken links, administering social media, revamping widgets on my site etc.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
Just to keep writing and hopefully putting out content that inspires others. I want to spread positivity in the world and the day I can’t do that anymore I’ll stop.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
I have so many blogs that I follow and bloggers whose posts I follow with interest. I love the work of Monica at The Travel Hack and also Emily Luxton. Their blogs are so inspiring.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
I’m really into Instagram at the moment. I love browsing through other people’s lives through pictures and seeing what they are doing, where they are going. It’s a real source of inspiration for me.
14 Anything else you want to share with us?
Just to say a big thank you to you Debbie for the work you do each week to host the #AnythingGoes linky. I love joining in linkys as it’s a really good way of discovering new blogs and bloggers.
15 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
I blog over at Life Loving and you can find me on the following social media: Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pinterest.
