The Blogger’s Corner series is an interview series featuring advice and experience from bloggers whose blogs are older than six months.
If you would like to take part, you can find all of the details here.
Today, we have the lovely Janet from Aspiring Warrior Mum.
1 Introduce yourself
My name is Janet. I’m a mum of 3 and I run my own creative business as a writer, trainer and coach. I’m actually a qualified English teacher, but I love creative writing and the publishing industry. I spend most of my time running my kids to different activities, like football or a performing arts society. If I do get time to myself, I enjoy reading, writing (for leisure, for myself) and meditating. Other than blogging, I always have a writing project on the go. Whether I’m writing/creating resources, presentations or educational pieces. I currently have two long-term contracts/collaborations ghostwriting, and I’m currently writing a book (of my own) on branding. I also have a Fantasy novel in the works too. I tend to fit my own personal writing works around the paid work I do for others.
2 Tell us a little bit about your blog
My blog is a place for regular, busy, and creative mums, who are, or want to be in business. It’s a place to share ideas, support one another, whilst helping each other grow by gaining financial security and flexibility in their life, around the things that are most important – family. Obviously, there’s an element of family life within this too.
3 What can your readers learn from your blog?
I give advice, tips and guidance on things writing and publishing related, as well as running a business, for a living around family life. I also look at branding, growth, visibility, marketing and mindset too. An ongoing theme relates to family life too, and how we can survive working, around family comments as well as building and growing a business.
4 What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
I love sharing information and watching others grow. I find that blogging is not just writing, it’s an online, supportive community.
5 And your least favourite thing about blogging?
Definitely to do with the technology. Like when there’s a glitch and your schedule post doesn’t post, or your site is down.
6 Tell us one random fact about you
I live in the UK and I’ve never been abroad. In fact, I live in England and the only other country I’ve visited is Scotland (I’ve never even been to Wales). My dream is to take my kids to Disney land, before they’re too old (do you even get too old for Disney? Surely not!).
7 If you could only blog about one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
I would write about writing and how it can change your life. I just feel so passionate about writing and there are so many career possibilities if you can write. It can be great for your mental health too, so there are so many personal benefits too!
8 What was the hardest part of starting your blog and why?
Finding a niche. This was the part I struggled with for a long time, because I wanted my writing to be inclusive – basically, I wanted to write something for everyone. This actually made things harder for me, because now I never run out of things to write about, even though I’ve niched down. I’m actually more focussed.
9 If you could give new bloggers one piece of advice, what would it be?
Before you start writing, have an ideal customer/reader in mind and make the post about them. As for the topic, I still believe you should write about something that you know and love.
10 Is there anything you know now that you wish you’d known in the beginning?
I wish I’d known my niche and ideal reader much, much earlier.
11 Do you have any long term goals for your blog?
My long-term goal for my blog is to grow my readership, and then start to grow a strong community of creative women/mums in business. I’ve recently started a membership group and I offer training and coaching services too, but I want my blog to be a place where others are encouraged to educate themselves, while growing as a person and in business. I want to help others do this! I’ve been running a Wednesday live post, which is an informational post, and I hope to make use of a YouTube channel soon, too.
12 Who’s your blogging hero?
This is tough as I read several blogs and I’ve came across so many wonderful bloggers. Aby Moore at You Baby Me Mummy is fantastic. She’s definitely my hero right now and has been so helpful to me.
13 What’s your favourite social media network and why?
My favourite social media network is Facebook for personal posts, but Twitter, in relation to blogging. I find Twitter is less personal, but much faster paced and easier to read.
14 Anything else you want to share with us?
I’d love to collaborate with other bloggers, so if anyone wants to contact me about an opportunity, or would like to feature on my blog, I’d certainly be open to that.
15 Where can we find you? (blog link and links to any social media)
I’m everywhere! My blog, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and LinkedIn.
